My wave photographs began at about the same time as I started shooting mines, and I discovered in the waves a balance to the dissonance I sensed in our mining of the earth. I found a certain solace in the endless subtle variations of these forms that have been with the earth since virtually the beginning of time. They are oblivious of our presence: we can transform the planet to our own ends but still the waves will remain, going about their eternal cycle. I find comfort in this, and hope. These photographs are meant as touchstones, a means for me to connect with the eternal rhythms of the universe.
